The lifeguard will be responsible for monitoring activities in the swimming area to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers be performing the following duties. Monitor the pool chemicals and report finding to the head lifeguard or Aquatics Coordinator and record on the daily chemical log. Ensure the pool chemicals are balanced and be able to identify irregularities and report to supervisor. Understand the proper chemical balance of chlorine, calcium, pH and the total alkalinity of the pool. Ensure the pool deck is free of debris, the water clear and the proper temperatures are within limits. Assures swimmer awareness regarding unsafe practices in and around the Aquatic facility, locker rooms and demonstrates leadership in skills and enforcing all rules and regulations. Maintain order in the swimming areas by reducing and eliminating hazards in and around the facility. Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning in shallow and deep water and administers first aid, CPR and/or emergency extraction and evacuation utilizing the EMS and/or public Safety. Assumes leadership role in times of crisis and when working in conjunction with other lifeguards and facility staff. Gives swimming instruction and/or lessons. Performs opening and closing of all pools on a daily basis, weekends and holidays. Follows company and departmental safety procedures and policies. Adheres to all policies and procedures in the Aquatics Manual and the current Student Recreation and Activities Employee Handbook. Attends regularly scheduled meeting throughout the year and performs minimum of 4 hours of in-service training each month and swim a minimum of 300 yards bi-monthly.
The position is a year-round position and will work at both the Kennesaw Campus and the Marietta Campus.
May work up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
Pay rate for summer is $9 per hour. Pay rate for other seasons $8 per hour.
